The new mobile unit features a modern X-ray machine for high-quality image transfer

Taunton, United Kingdom, 29 October 2025 – The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital Breast Screening Service (NNUH BSS) is delighted to announce the launch of its newly upgraded mobile breast screening vehicle, powered by Taunton-based DEOS Consulting’s image transfer technology, which features a brand-new X-ray machine and state-of-the-art satellite connectivity to enhance early cancer detection across Norfolk and Norwich.

The vital mobile service, which offers invited participants between the ages of 50 and 71 a breast screening mammogram every three years as part of the national screening programme, now benefits from the latest advancements in medical and communication technology. Early detection through this programme is crucial for improving long-term outcomes for patients.

The new mobile unit features a modern X-ray machine for high-quality imaging and has been equipped with the latest satellite technology from DEOS Consultancy Ltd to transfer images and patient information swiftly and reliably back to the main hospital.

Viv Barrett, Director, DEOS Consultancy Ltd commented on the upgrade, “We are delighted to provide this innovative technology to the Trust. Both staff and participants benefit from this; images are transferred back to the hospital in minutes, and the satellite provides a clear and consistent connection, even in more rural locations. This speed and reliability ensure the service can operate seamlessly, no matter where the unit is located.”

The NNUH BSS team has already praised the impact of the new equipment.

Lucy Jeal, Superintendent Radiographer from the Trust, added, “This is a fantastic service, and the support from the amazing people at DEOS has been invaluable. The new equipment, combined with the quick, reliable data transfer, means we can deliver the highest standard of care more efficiently to our participants across the entire region.”

The upgraded vehicle underscores the Norfolk and Norwich Breast Screening Service's commitment to ensuring all eligible participants have access to vital screenings that are key to saving lives.
